Egyptian security forces raided on Friday evening the house of a resident in the eastern Cairo region of Matariya, arresting 18 of his guests. They are to appear before the Nasr City based state security prosecution on Saturday evening.
The detainees are: Khaled Abdou, a pharmacist Alaa Gaafar, an engineer Ashraf Al Tohami, a chemist Helmi Nada, an engineer Muhammad Omar, a journalist at the state-run Al-Gomhuria newspaper Sayed Rajab, an engineer Ayman Abdul Fattah, an engineer Mohamed Hassan, an accountant Mostafa Abdul Hamid, an engineer Sameh Abdullah, a teacher Mohamed Yaqout, a professor in the Faculty of Education Ain Shams University Mohamed Al Taher Gouda, a teacher Osama Abdou, a chemist Mohamed Abdul Moneim, a teacher Salah Nouman, a carpenter Mohamed Hussein Al Wasimi, an engineer Moaaz Abdul Zaher Ali Sharafuddin Mahmoud Abdul Zaher Ali Sharafuddin . In a related context, Cairo Criminal Court issued a ruling of acquitting 67 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) detainees. The Interior Minister has the right to appeal the acquittal within 15 days after the it, according to the emergency law. Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud, MB lawyer, said that the acquittal ruling may take a month to take effect, due to the state of emergency in the country. He considered the possible new detention of MB individuals as leading to a spiral of endless prosecution. When ever the Egyptian independent courts issue rulings of acquitting MB members, the security services issue more arrest warrants against them to deny them justice and freedom . Abdul Maqsood demanded the government to reconsider its unjust policy and immediately release all detainees. |
