Court Rejects EC Request to Exclude Eight MB Candidates

The Supreme Administrative Court , headed by judge Al Sayed Nofal, issued a landmark ruling rejecting a request by the Election Committee (EC) to exclude 8 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidates from running for the Shura Council midterm elections scheduled to be held on Monday, June, 11, 2007 
 
The Election Committee, headed by Adel Indrawas, lodged a request to exclude 8 Muslim Brotherhood candidates under pretext that they used religious slogans that violate the latest constitutional amendments. The eight candidates are:
1- Abdul Mohsen Al Qamhawi, MB candidate for the constituency of Talkha, Dakahlia
2-Khaled Al Dib, MB candidate for the constituency of  Mit Ghamr, Dakahlia
3-Nagi Saqr, MB candidate for the constituency of Zagazig, Gharbiya
4-Ezzat Gharib Abdul Hamid , MB candidate for the constituency of Bilbeis, Sharqiya
5-Al Desouki Kolaib , MB candidate for the constituency of Tanta, Gharbiya
6-Ahmed Ibrahim Khattab , MB candidate for the constituency of Shibin El Kanatar, Al-Qalyubia
7-Salah Al Semari, MB candidate for the constituency of Birket El-Sab, Monofiya
8-Ahmed Ismail, MB candidate for the constituency of Fayed, Ismailia
 
For his part, Abdul Mohsen Qamhawi, the MB candidate for the constituency of Talkha, Dakahlia, called the ruling "a milestone" that confirms the fairness and the integrity of the Egyptian justice .
 
Qamhawi said in a statement to Ikhwanweb that the court ruled that "Islam is the solution" is a political, not a religious, slogan, dealing a deathblow to the Egyptian regime that seeks to make use of this slogan as a reason to exclude MB candidates which will enable candidates from the National Democratic candidates to win unopposed.
 
Qamhawi added:" This ruling gave us a momentum to continue running for the elections despite the security harassments that we are facing from the Interior Ministry and its irresponsible elements.
