The Muslim Brotherhood reported late on Saturday that at least 12 members were arrested in a dawn raid on Friday in the northern city of Alexandria. According to the banned Islamic group, state security raided a Scouts camping excursion in the Haggari area of the Mediterranean city. “Personnel involved in the scouting excursion numbered approximately 75,” the Brotherhood stated. It comes as members of the Islamic group continue to face widespread crackdown. In recent weeks, dozens of Brotherhood members and leaders have been detained and thrown in prison. Initially, police arrested the 12 supervisors and the 63 students from both preparatory and secondary school, the Brotherhood said. The Brotherhood statement on what occurred Friday morning stated that state security had immediately contacted the parents of those students arrested and asked the families to come pick the students up from custody and return them home. “The 12 supervisors were detained by the Deportation Police without any questioning. They have not as yet been brought before the prosecution,” the statement read. The Brotherhood released a list of those remaining in police custody: Hassan Ahmed Hassan Hazem Attia Mohamed Taha Abdul-Hamid Haitham Yousri Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Aziz El-Shahat Mohamed Gamal El-Din Ahmed Rashwan Mahmoud Alyoshi Mohamed Abdel-Rahim Ahmed Mohamed Al Sayed Helal Ahmed Sami Zaki |
