Court overturned the Egyptian government appeal to maintain the jail of the Secretary-General of relief committee of Arab Doctors’ Union and it issued a ruling of immediately releasing him.
 
Cairo Criminal Court overturned, for the second time, the appeal submitted by the state security prosecution to maintain the jail of Dr. Gamal Abdul Salam, Secretary-General of relief committee of Arab Doctors’ Union and Muslim Brotherhood candidate in the 2005 People’s Assembly; the court issued a ruling of releasing but is still unclear whether the Interior Ministry or prosecution will respond to this ruling, the second acquittal of its kind in two days.
 
The Criminal Court, south of Cairo, heard on Monday, March, 12, 2007, the appeal lodged by the attorney general against the appeals court’s ruling of immediately releasing Dr. Gamal Abdul Salam; this was the same ruling issued by the court last Sunday morning after Abdul Salam’s lawyers submitted an appeal and the prosecution challenged it .
 
The Interior Ministry and state security prosecution refused, in many precedents, to implement Egyptian judicial rulings of releasing many members and leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood held in prisons without any legal basis. Several courts in Cairo, Dakahlia and Alexandria acquitted some MB detainees, but the prosecution and the Interior Ministry violate laws and issue more arrest warrants. This took place with engineer Khairat Al Shater, the MB second deputy chairman, and other fellow members who were detained on Dec., 14, 2006.
