CAIRO: The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced on Monday 6 more deaths as a result of the deadly H1N1 virus, or Swine flu, in addition to 8 new deaths that were announced a day earlier.
The 14 deaths brought the death toll of the H1N1 virus to 201, the largest number of deaths as a result of the deadly virus in the Arab world. The ministry said in a statement that the 196th death was a 53-year-old man from the Cairo Governorate and the 197th was a 26-year-old young man also from Cairo. The ministry has stated that the winter months could see an upsurge in the total number of victims from the virus as a result of the colder weather. In the past month, scores of victims have succumbed to the virus. The statement added that the 198th case was a 34-year-old man from the Helwan Governorate just south of the capital and 199th was a 38-year-old woman from Menoufia in the Nile Delta region. The 200th victim was a 28-year-old woman from the North Sinai Governorate. The Ministry of Health had on Sunday reported the deaths of 8 new cases of virus, bringing the total death toll to 195. The victims were from Giza, Beni Sueif, Port Said, Cairo and Qalyoubiah north of the capital. **reporting by Mohamed Abdel Salam |
