Renowned papers such as the New York Times condemned the use of violence by the Egyptian police against protesters while trying to prevent a number of Egyptian MPs, political leaders, 6^th April movement activists and Egyptian women for change movement, from submitting the Egyptian people’s demand to the head of parliament.

The paper reported that a number of protestors were beaten by police as they were calling for the abolition of the Emergency Law which restricts civil liberties and has been used by the Egyptian regime to arrest reform activists and opposition journalists. This law also allows the police to detain individuals without prosecution and search houses without warrants.
