UN Security Council held an emergency meeting to discuss Israel's attack on the Freedom flotilla, which was transporting humanitarian aid to the blockaded Gaza Strip

Arab states urged the council to order Israel to lift the unjust blockade on Gaza, release the detainees, and allow the ships to deliver the aid

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu described the attacks as piracy and banditry. During a meeting with France Ambassador to the UN, Mr. Davutoglu demanded an immediate Israeli apology and an international legal investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable and punish them according to international humanitarian law

While Palestinians and Turkish insist that the ships were carrying humanitarian aid and human rights activists, Israel’s deputy U.N. Ambassador Daniel Carmon claimed flotilla was anything but a humanitarian mission. He called the killings “tragic and unfortunate" adding that the activists on the fleet were affiliated with Islamist networks including Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood offshoot. He defended the measures calling them "preventative"

Israel’s closest ally, the United States refrained from going further than saying that the US was deeply disturbed by the recent violence and regrets the tragic loss of life.
