Egypt: Security detains activist involved in ElBaradei campaign
Cairo's institute for human rights studies in a statement asserted that Sources claimed that eyewitnesses saw activist Amr Salah seized outside his home and pushed into a vehicle with dark tinted windows by men who identified themselves as security forces. Salah was actively involved in the pro-ElBaradei’s campaign to press for political reforms in Egypt .

Egyptian human rights groups reported that plain clothes men were involved in the abduction of a citizen after being beaten outside his home on Friday. Cairo's institute for human rights studies in a statement asserted that Sources claimed that eyewitnesses saw activist Amr Salah seized outside his home and pushed into a vehicle with dark tinted windows by men who identified themselves as security forces. Salah was actively involved in the pro-ElBaradei’s campaign to press for political reforms in Egypt . According to Ragab Saad Taha, a program officer at CIHRS to Masry Alyoum Salah contacted his mother to say that he was released and heading home. He stressed in a statement that. "The incident is especially worrying because other Egyptian activists have been forcibly disappeared in the past under similar circumstances." Egypt had witnessed escalating security harassments by forces who abused their authority thanks to the emergency law which has been in force since President Mubarak came to power 30 years ago. Two policemen in Alexandria went on trial in July accused of the illegal arrest and torture of 28 year old businessman Khaled Saeed who died after being brutally tortured capturing the attention of activists worldwide. The case has been closely monitored as Egypt 's citizens voiced their anger and dissent to the security forces who continue to act arrogantly under an emergency law allowing indefinite detention and curbs on any anti-government activity. The government however argues that the emergency law is aimed at dealing with drug and terrorism cases. |
