Dr. Saad El-Din Ibrahim, human rights activist and chairman of Ibn Khaldoun Centre, stated that the Egyptian regime has received 200 billion dollars as US and European support over the past thirty years. He said: “There are secret accounts in Egypt and abroad. Some Arabic newspapers published that while the regime severely criticises any organization which used to receive the minimum amount.”

Ibrahim explained that the current US administration considers the regime as average in its strength and performance because it does not have an alternative. For this reason they will continue to deal with it. However, more than one American official told him that if demonstrations started in Cairo for three consecutive days calling for the elimination of the system, then the US and the European community would start dealing with it again.
