Egyptian Preachers intervene to break up sit-in

After a church was partially burned and demolished last Friday in the village of Soul in Atfeeh, Helwan, thousands of residents attended a conference on Wednesday to strengthen solidarity between the village’s Muslim and Christian communities.

After a church was partially burned and demolished last Friday in the village of Soul in Atfeeh, Helwan, thousands of residents attended a conference on Wednesday to strengthen solidarity between the village’s Muslim and Christian communities.
 
In a further attempt to improve and clam the situation, Muslim Brotherhood member Dr. Mohamed Beltagy and MB Executive Bureau member Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Barr, and preachers Safwat Higazi, Abdallah Barakat, and Muhammad Hassan addressed the crowd. They stressed that Islam calls for equality between people of all religions and warned that any sectarian tension will endanger the success of the People’s revolution.
 
Egypt’s State TV announced that the committee successfully prevented sectarian strife, and convinced residents to end their sit-in.
 
The Committee has issued a statement stating that Egypt’s history has never recorded any incident where the Coptic Christians have ever been forcibly displaced from their village or were there any incidents where their property was burned. The statement added that signatories to the statement have agreed to enforce the law against anyone tempted to engage in any violation to the law.

The statement ended “Muslims and Christians are united as one and reject any aiming to undermine Egypt's unity”.
