Egypt’s renowned Muslim Brotherhood member Dr. Abdul Moneim Abul Fotouh has confirmed his plans to contend for president of Egypt despite an agreement by the Muslim Brotherhood to not field a candidate.

Egypt’s renowned Muslim Brotherhood member Dr. Abdul Moneim Abul Fotouh has confirmed his plans to contend for president of Egypt despite an agreement by the Muslim Brotherhood to not field a candidate.

The announcement by Abul Fotouh also the Arab Doctors' Union chief maintained that he would run as an independent.

The group has reiterated promises not to field a candidate in the presidential election stressing the group wants participation not domination. Although he is popular and much respected the Executive Bureau has stated that it will not support any MB member who chooses to nominate himself since it was voted on by the group’s Shura Council they would not bid for the post and the decision must be respected any other action  is a violation of the Brotherhood's collective decision.
