The Secretary-General pointed out that publishing such cartoons is a heinous crime committed by irresponsible persons to provoke Muslims.

Dr. Katatni stressed the need for Muslim institutions like Al-Azhar and the International Union for Muslim Scholars as well as the Organization of Islamic Conference to respond to this outrageous behavior and impress on the relevant authorities the need to stop publishing these cartoons which will always increase tension and strife.

Dr. Katatni also called upon the French government, which hosts Europe’s largest Muslim community, to investigate this incident and take all legal and professional penal actions against the newspaper "Charlie Hebdo", and to publish an official apology for hurting the feelings of Muslims all over the world.
