Abdel-Maksoud: Excluding Al-Shater Based on Political Power Play Not Legal Considerations
Making a mockery of the entire Egyptian judicial process, the country’s elections panel – which is meant to supervise the upcoming presidential elections – has persisted in perverse action to block popular front-runners from joining the race.

Abdel-Moneim Abdel Maksoud, the legal coordinator for the campaign "Shater For President", stressed that the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission (SPEC) began election fraud today, when it based its decision to exclude Al-Shater on clearly perverse and unjust verdicts issued against him earlier by a military court. In a phone call to the satellite TV channel “Al Jazeera Mubashir Misr (Live – Egypt)”, Tuesday evening, Al-Shater’s lawyer said that if the military courts knew that the sentences passed against Al-Shater were at all justified, they would have never exonerated him
Further, Abdel-Maksoud asserted that SPEC based its action on dubious political arrangements, in gross and brazen violation of judicial process which proved that Al-Shater’s legal position is perfectly solid.
Moreover, Abdel-Maksoud stressed that SPEC’s decision to sideline Al-Shater will certainly cast the elections committee in the most negative light possible and place many question marks on its integrity and hence capability of supervising the forthcoming presidential elections.
