Retrial of deposed president Hosni Mubarak and his interior minister Habib Al-Adli and 6 top aides, is postponed by Judge Mustafa Hassan Abdullah who sent the case of killing demonstrators during the January 25 Revolution to the Court of Appeal, citing ‘unease’.

In a statement, Dr. Essam Erian, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Vice Chairman, described the judge’s decision as a wise one.

Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Maksoud, Muslim Brotherhood lawyer and the civil rights plaintiff in Mubarak’s retrial, said: "The decision of the judge to step down will bring comfort to many, because this Court has shown its stance (when it acquitted all top officials accused of involvement in the notorious ‘Battle of the Camel’). I hope the Court of Appeals will send the case to a new judicial district without delay, because this case has gone on for more than two years already.

"This decision is a positive sign for justice in Egypt. There is new evidence upon which the retrial was brought. I believe this evidence is sufficient for the execution of Mubarak and his aides."
