Dr. Mahmoud Al-Hamami, member of the Education Committee of Egypt’s Shura Council and an MP for the Freedom and Justice Party, said: "The Fact-Finding Committee (FFC) has completed its report on Cairo University’s student dormitories, confirming the existence of prevalent corruption reflected in problems in negligence of building maintenance and food-hall management.

"There are problems in maintenance of buildings that have only just been built recently. They do not meet the specifications set forth in full, which means funds allocated to those buildings have been squandered."

Dr. Hamami pointed that the FFC held a meeting with students to discuss their problems, most notably the need for communication channels with State officials, and advised them on how to handle their legitimate demands.

Mohamed Khashaba, FFC Chairman, said: "There are problems in food-service as a result of certain employees’ negligence and non-attendance in their specified working hours. The FFC’s report will be submitted to the Minister of Higher Education and to affected universities, so necessary actions and decisions are taken as appropriate.

"Those will be operational procedures related to university management. Shura Council will urge full implementation of the FFC’s recommendations, pressure relevant departments to carry out required reforms and tackle corruption."
