In a press statement, Hussein Ibrahim, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Secretary-General, said: "The report issued by the Supreme Constitutional Court on the legislative elections and political rights bills, and allowing military and police officers to vote in the elections, represents a direct threat to Egyptian national security as it forces the army and police into electoral and political affairs.

"We reaffirm our full commitment to holding legislative elections without further delay, for stability and an end to the transitional phase. We demand an end to attempts to delay or disrupt the legislative elections.

"The army's participation in the electoral process creates partisan biases within this vital national institution; removes its traditional neutrality; and introduces political conflicts to military barracks."
