The family included two women and two female children. They were all detained without any legal basis for over two days (50 hours) without being presented before the prosecution. This constitutes a violation of their rights provided in the Egyptian Constitution, Penal Code, Universal Declaration for Human Rights and the International Convention for Civil and Political Rights.

Furthermore, charges were fabricated against the family including possession of publications and insulting the army.  Despite all this, the family was released on bail on Thursday evening 25 July 2013.

We ascertain that such arrests against free Egyptians are in violation of Freedom of Expression protected under international law.

We stress that such restrictions of movement and arbitrary detentions will not prevent the free Egyptians of speaking out loudly for their rights
