It seems that Reuters, long known for its neutrality and objectivity, joined the ranks of hostile Egyptian media. Its main report Friday in Arabic, prepared by Soha Gado and Amira Fahmy, regarding coverage of anti-coup demonstrations said: "Mass protests called by Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood mostly failed to materialize on Friday as the movement reels from a bloody army crackdown on followers of ousted President Mohamed Morsi".

This statement was quoted by most media organizations earlier on Friday, although all evidence shows that the Friday demonstrations  (August 23) was the largest in Cairo, Giza and the provinces, amounting to approximately 300 mass protests in all cities and villages across the nation, according to the independent satellite TV station ‘Al-Jazeera Mubasher (Live) Egypt’.

The marches did not plan to mass large numbers of protesters in central Cairo. Instead, they rallied through side streets in all areas along their scheduled routes, in order to avoid casualties at the hands of army and police forces, and to reach out to the largest number of people.

There was a great, positive response from local residents to the rallies, which made coup-controlled media outlets use images of anti-coup marches, claiming they are demonstrations supporting General Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, such as the state-run news website 'Al-Ahram' and the independent 'Al-Masry Al-Youm' news website.

In an earlier statement, the Anti-Coup, Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance had announced a list of marches to be launched from 28 rendezvous points in Cairo and Giza, under the name of Martyrs’ Friday.
