Heads of student unions have different views regarding new  regulations, some support while others oppose them, amid recriminations and allegations that those who approve were appointed by heads of universities after the demise of elected student unions a year ago – in the era of the Muslim Brotherhood, so to say – and that those who refuse the regulations do not represent the universities.

A number of Egyptian university student-unions announced their rejection of the new student regulations which they also threatened to use all means possible to refuse, because these are "regulations imposed on them".

In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, Munir Mustafa, spokesman for the Executive Office of the Student Union Egypt, said:

"Student welfare departments select from among university students and unions those who 'suit' them, to agree on the proposed student regulations. Then, they are surprised that their 'favored ones' will in fact accept only free student laws, rather than regulations ready made by the regime, where student have less say than under Mubarak. The withdrawal of all students sends out a one message to this regime: Beware how you deal with students.

"We hope to develop the current regulations to become student laws that enable students to manage their activity fully, on their own, to monitor the educational services offered to them, to participate in building a vision of their educational institutions, objectives and plans, and to enable members of student unions to defend the rights of their colleagues and to solve their problems."
