Dr. Mohamed Gamal Heshmat, leading member of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, condemned the takeover – by coup authorities – of the Islamic Medical Association (IMA)'s 28 charity hospitals, nationalized Wednesday by the repressive regime's Ministry of Health on fabricated charges.

On his Facebook page, Dr. Heshmat said: "They rushed to grab the IMA's hospitals, including Dar Es-Salaam (northern Egypt). When I heard the news, I felt like they killed or arrested a son of mine. They are brutally demolishing all we ever built."

There is no connection between the IMA and the Muslim Brotherhood, although members of its Board of Directors and its officials are affiliated with the group.

The IMA is one of many associations that operate under the Ministry of Social Affairs of Egypt. It was founded in 1978 by Ahmed Al-Malt, member of the Muslim Brotherhood's Guidance Bureau (the group's highest executive authority). Originally, the IMA began as a charitable medical clinic in Sayeda Zaynab neighborhood (central Cairo), later it expanded into 28 branches nationwide.
