Islah Mov’t Condemns Ethiopian Military Intervention in Somalia

Ethiopian Government has been continuously interfering Somalia, taking advantage of the prolonged civil war, political conflicts and absence of effective central movement in the country.Certainly, the ongoing Ethiopian military intervention that was declared recently by the Ethiopian Prime Minister Mr. Melese Zenawi is the continuation of its sinister policies towqrds Somalia.Therefore;

Ethiopian Government has been continuously interfering Somalia, taking advantage of the prolonged civil war, political conflicts and absence of effective central movement in the country.
Certainly, the ongoing Ethiopian military intervention that was declared recently by the Ethiopian Prime Minister Mr. Melese Zenawi is the continuation of its sinister policies towqrds Somalia.
Therefore;

1- We strongly condemn Ethiopian military intervention and call Ethiopian government to withdraw its military forces immediately from all Somali territory.

2- We call Ethiopian government to respect good neighborhood, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Somalia. Ethiopia should be conscious that good neighborhood is the interest of both people and enhances peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

3-We call Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and the Council of the Islamic Courts to restart negotiations immediately. Only this way, we can prevent foreign interventions from our country. We remind both parties that this moment is a golden opportunity for notional reconciliation and peaceful settlement for Somalia.

4-We call Somali people to unite and put pressure on the Transitional Federal Government and the Council of Islamic Courts for the successful completion of the reconciliation. Both parties should not initiate any actions that may instigate armed conflict and provoke foreign interventions.

5-Finally, we call concerned international community and United Nations to take immediately necessary actions put to put a stop to foreign interventions in the war-torn Somalia. That intervention certainly will create obstacles for political settlement in Somalia and eventually, will generate instability in the Horn of Africa in general and Somalia in particular.
