Brotherhood’s Information Request on Government Refusal to Register Egyptian Medicines

The Muslim Brotherhood’s MP, Gamal Kearney, said he will introduce an information request to the new government’s premier and health minister relating to the refusal of the Investment Ministry to register 500 Egyptian medical preparations. This measure was a result of pressure exerted by the American pharmacological companies which found these Egyptian medicines competitive to their products in the Egyptian market.
 
The MB’s representative disclosed the president of the parliamentary Health Committee, Hamdy el-Said, is the source of these leads. Government explanation is required, accordingly. If the government is on the favor of foreign companies against the Egyptian ones, it is the real corrupter of the national economy. 
 
In fact, the Investment Minister, who made this dangerous decision, is re-chosen in the new administration. Therefore, el-Kearny joins the calls of the Medicine Professions Union to transfer the presidency of the Egyptian medicine firms form the Investment Ministry to the Health Ministry which is more competent to steer the medicine manufacturing sector.
 
Moreover, there are reports that three Jewish medicine manufacturing companies make top connections to purchase 35% of shares of the Egyptian medicine firm ’CID’, due to be offered in the Stock Exchange within few days.
 
’If this comes true, it means the foreign dominance over the Egyptian medicine; a matter that has adverse impact on the Egypt’s economy and people,’ el-Kearny stressed.
