A fierce battle erupted between the ruling National Democratic (NDP) candidate and an independent candidate, triggering a gunfire and killing one person, Ahmed Abdul Salam Ghanem, and seriously injuring three others.
 
This incident recalls to mind 2005 People’s Assembly elections in which 13 citizens were killed in election riots.
