In his first Washington appearance since the U.S. government allowed him to enter the country, prominent  Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan will join John L. Esposito in a conversation exploring the challenges of confronting the status quo and promoting radical reform in Islam and the Muslim world.

Tariq Ramadanis Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the Oxford University (Oriental Institute, St Antony's College) and President of the European think tank: European Muslim Network (EMN) in Brussels. A major contributor at the academic and grassroots levels on issues of Islamic reform, Muslims in the West, interfaith and intercultural dialogue, his most recent publications include What I Believe, Islam, The West and the Challenges of Modernity, and Radical Reform: Islamic Ethics and Liberation.

Espositois University Professor, Professor of Religion & International Affairs and Founding Director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. Editor-in-chief of the six-volume The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, his most recent books include The Future of Islam, Who Speaks for Islam?
