Again... Al Shater, 15 MB leaders detained 15 days pending trial
The Higher State Security Prosecution prolonged 16 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, topped by engineer Mohamed Khayrat Al Shater, the MB second deputy chairman, for 15 more days pending investigations that it is holding in Cairo.

Eng. Khayrat Al Shater refused to answer the questions of the State Security Prosecution in the investigations that started at 9.00 am till 4.00 pm on Saturday, challenging the legitimacy of investigating with him.

The MB deputy chairman confirmed- before refusing to answer the questions- that the case he is accused of is politically motivated and aims at distorting the group’s image and its national role, adding that the confiscated money- up to 40 thousand Egyptian pounds, 20 thousand dollars and some foreign currencies estimated up to hundreds of Egyptian pounds- is related to economic projects that he is running.

Meanwhile, 140 of Al-Azhar University students will appear before the same prosecution throughout the current week, as the same group of MB leaders is scheduled to appear again on Wednesday 10-1- 2007.

It is worth mentioning that the defence panel- headed by the MB lawyer Abdul Monem Abdul Maqsoud- withdrew after the MB students refused to appear in front of this body.

For his part, lawyer Mostafa Al Demeiri, described this decision as unfair and totally unjustified; this is because it is case which isn’t based on evidence, but is politically motivated, something confirming that the prosecution isn’t neutral.
