Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, Speaker of the People’s Assembly, called on Justice Hossam Ghariani, President of the Supreme Judicial Council, to clarify the position of the Council regarding statements made by Justice Ahmed Al-Zanad, head of the Judges Club, in which he harshly criticized the People’s Assembly and threatened to resort to Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA), the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Commenting on Justice Zanad’s threats not to apply the laws passed by the current parliament, Dr. Katatni stressed that it would be a violation of the right of Parliament and its authority as the legislative branch.

Katatni Further called on the President of the Supreme Judicial Council to clarify the position of some Justices with regard to these absurd statements, out of respect for the principle of separation of powers, which everyone approves.

“Statements made by judicial institutions should be appropriate for their status and understanding of the Constitution and the law.”

In a press statement, Dr. Katatni pointed that the People’s Assembly, as the legislative branch, respects all other authorities, whether executive or judicial, adding that the judiciary have a prominent place in the hearts of the Egyptian people, for their significant role in establishing justice and the enforcement of the rule of law.
